Red Auerbach (1917-2006)

One of the most successful professional basketball coaches passed away yesterday at the age of 89. Red Auerbach coined the phrase "Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser" The feisty yet inspiring coach made the Boston Celtics the premier basketball team in the United States, winning consecutive titles from 1959 to 1966.
Auerbach played a major role in the Celtics' 16 titles, of which 7 were won as general manager. Those players who excelled during the Auerbach era include Bill Russell, KC Jones, Larry Bird and Bob Cousy (just to name a few). It was in part because of men like Red Auerbach that basketball has become the major sport it is today.
